Geospatial Analyst, ENR Wildlife Management, Inuvik


Department Information 
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) promotes and supports the sustainable use and development of natural resources to protect, conserve and enhance the Northwest Territories environment for the social and economic benefit of all residents. 

Job Information 
Under the direction of the Manager, Wildlife Management, and in collaboration with various boards, agencies, and the NWT Center for Geomatics within ENR in Yellowknife, the Geospatial Analyst will develop and implement the Geomatics Program for the Inuvik Region. This individual must have a broad understanding of geography, vegetation and ecological systems, and specialized training and knowledge in the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The incumbent provides GIS support, advice and training as required for effective resource management in the Inuvik Region.

The incumbent provides information management support for digital data in all stages of wildlife management and limited stages of forest management program development and delivery. This includes the integration of GIS and/or remote sensing technology into initial program planning, development, implementation and audit.

The Geospatial Analyst provides spatial information for wildlife and forest management. This includes creating, editing, manipulating and storing geographical information and associated attributes, carrying out analysis on the data, developing cartographic products, reports, charts and other forms of information products, customizing applications and building new applications and procedures.

The level of knowledge is most commonly acquired through a degree in Geography, Ecology, Biology or Natural Resources or by acquiring an Advanced diploma in Geographic Information Systems from a recognized technical institute and a minimum of 1 year experience as a GIS professional. 

Equivalencies 
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. 

Salary Information 
The salary for this position starts at $41.24 per hour (approximately $80,418. per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $13,827.
