Job Description:
The Atlantic Policy Congress of First Nation Chiefs (APCFNC) is a Policy, Research and Advocacy Secretariat for 38 Mi’kmaq, Maliseet, Innu and Passamaquoddy Chiefs, Nations, and Communities in Eastern Canada. Federally incorporated in 1995, the APC Secretariat advocates speaking with one voice on behalf of the communities. Through research and analysis, they develop and table policy alternatives before the Congress and federal policy decision makers, for matters affecting First Nations communities in Atlantic Canada, Quebec, and Maine, USA.


Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this newly created role will administer, manage and provide leadership on a wide range of fisheries programs and initiatives that support and provide assistance to Atlantic region First Nations communities. APCFNC is seeking a proven professional with experiences in developing sound communications strategies ensuring stakeholders are informed of industry and other issues that can impact First Nations commercial fishery operations. The successful candidate will engage, collaborate, and partner with First Nations communities, private sector stakeholders and government. She/he will be sought after as a knowledge leader for all matters relating to commercial fishery operations for the Atlantic region First Nations and possess the following qualifications:
– A post-secondary degree in Business, Agriculture, Environmental Sciences or other related discipline with a minimum 5 years experience working in Fisheries and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
– Proven experience in developing, implementing and evaluating policy, advocacy, advisory, research and communication programs including a sound understanding of fishery operations specifically within First Nations communities;
– Experience leading and managing departments and budgets including the ability to lead, manage and motivate full-time and contract staff teams;
– Exceptional communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills;
– Demonstrated professionalism, judgment, diplomacy, tact, and sound decision making abilities; and
– An ability to travel when necessary and relocate to and live in or near the Halifax area.
