The Tk’emlúps Indian Band (TIB) is a fast growing vibrant organization committed to the development and progress of its Band Members

POSITION TITLE: Chief Operating Officer

NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK:
The Chief Operating Officer, (COO) is the Chief of Operations for the TteS and with direction from the Chief Executive Officer; (CEO) is responsible for the oversight management on the overall COO operational management plan.
The incumbent works independently must assist with planning, budget, record managing to improve efficiency and reporting relative to organization goals and objectives from an operational perspective. Additionally, this position acts as a liaison and representative of TteS with various Crown ministries, agents, stakeholders, advisors and consultants in relation to the corporate
interests of the TteS. Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the TteS Band
policies, standards and procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of the TteS Band business
entities.
2. Reports to the Chief Executive Officer and to assist with keeping C&C informed of current
activities, strategic goal achievement and future plans and developments.
3. Assist with managing the execution of the TteS’s mission and strategic direction as conveyed
through policies and concrete objectives which are met through the effective management
of human, financial and material resources.
4. Assist with allocation of material, human and financial resources to implement
organizational policies and programs.
5. Assist with managing DH’s or other executive staff; delegate the necessary authority to them
and create optimum working conditions.
6. Represent the organization or delegate representatives to act on behalf of the organization
in negotiations or other official functions when directed by CEO.
7. Maintains close and cooperative relationships between departments, staff and external
service providers, and serves as a resource regarding information about programs/services,
policies and procedures.
8. Determines staffing needs within established guidelines, selects, evaluates, and trains
assigned staff.

9. Is responsible for supporting the CEO by calling committee meetings as required, as well as
setting agendas, and overseeing the preparation of all agenda materials for committee
meetings.
10. Is responsible for supporting the CEO in overseeing all projects and the preparation of all
contracts which require the use of TteS resources.
11. In undertaking his or her duties the COO as & where directed by CEO:
• Will oversee the employment, supervision and direction of all DH’s of the TteS and all
contractors to and advisors of the TteS.;
• Will oversee the implementation of all work plans to meet the objective of each strategic
plan;
• Will oversee the performance measurement and evaluation systems for all strategic
planning initiatives and report to the CEO;
• Will provide regular reports to the CEO on operations and oversee the preparation of
each Annual Report submitted to the CEO for review and presented to the C&C for
approval by July 1 of each year;
Professional Certification, Education and Experience
• A university degree in business administration, commerce, computer science or other
discipline related to the service.
• Specialization in a particular functional area or service is possible through specific university
training in that area or through previous experience.
• Three to Five years experience in a Senior Administration position.
Skills and Abilities
• Proven leadership and management skills.
• Familiar and experienced with Microsoft based networking systems.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to build positive and respectful relationships with Department Heads, Staff and
members of the Tk’emlups Indian Band community.
• Excellent interpersonal, tact and diplomacy skills.
• Must pass a criminal record check.
• A ‘can do’ attitude, willingness and experience in taking and providing direction.
• Experience in First Nations organizations and INAC funding.
• Respect and understanding of First Nation culture and traditions.
HOURS OF WORK: Salary Pay – 7 hours per day/35 hours per week
PAY GRADE: As Per KIB Wage Grid
