Job Description:


Reporting to the FRI GIS Program Lead and GIS Specialists, the incumbent will support the FRI GIS Program by providing GIS project assistance including:

  1. The creation and maintenance of datasets (spatial and non-spatial);
  2. Handling data requests;
  3. Database management;
  4. Spatial analysis;
  5. Cartography; and
  6. Training and technical support to staff and program partners.

Other tasks would include the creation of metadata and help videos for FRI Internet mapping sites and data entry.

Knowledge and Skills:


Experience in ArcGIS 9.x/10 software pertaining to natural resource based research.

  1. Experience using Python/Model Builder would be an asset.
  2. Enthusiastic and motivated to enhance and learn new GIS skills.
  3. Experience in Microsoft Access and Excel.
  4. Familiarity with GPS units and technology and a keenness to potentially learn how to use and manage other field equipment and gadgets.
  5. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  6. Ability to meet multiple deadlines and the balancing of multiple priorities.
  7. Strong oral, written, and electronic communication skills.

Job Qualifications:


A minimum of six months work experience or working knowledge of ESRI software, especially ArcInfo, ArcGIS 9.x/10 software;

  1. Proficient with either Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Access software;
  2. Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive);
  3. A completed GIS diploma is not required, but for funding purposes for this position, the incumbent should be a recent/current student and/or recent graduate from a post-secondary program;
  4. Legally entitled to work in Canada; and
  5. Not in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits.

Term of Employment:


May 2nd, 2011 to August 31st, 2011

Salary:


Will be approximately $15.38 per hour based on 37.5 hours per week.
