Graduation with a degree from a recognized university in a natural resource management discipline with acceptable specialization in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or a diploma in GIS from a recognised institute of technology. Preference will be given to individuals with an advanced degree in GIS.
Proof of education must be submitted prior to appointment. 

Experience in data and information management relating to ecological and spatial data (e.g., metadata development, sharing data between and across government jurisdictions, and managing data and data users with software and server technology such as Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS), Microsoft SQL Server and ArcSDE). 

Experience in manipulating, editing, creating and presenting spatial data using a Geographic Information System, specifically using ESRI ArcGIS. 

Experience in manipulating, correcting, and analysing remotely sensed data using specialized software such as PCI Geomatica or Definiens. 

Experience in participating in multi-disciplinary teams and providing professional and/or scientific data advice in support to resource management.

The Western and Northern Service Centre of the Parks Canada Agency is a network of professional and technical expertise established to support National Parks, National Historic Sites and National Marine Conservation Areas in Western and Northern Canada in the protection and presentation of cultural and natural resources. 

You will be working in a professional and technical interdisciplinary environment developing, managing and implementing Geographic Information Systems and other geomatics tools designed for science research and resource conservation in western and northern Canada. You will access, manage and utilize a large volume of complex spatial and non-spatial datasets that support the management and protection of national parks, and national historic sites. You will provide guidance and service to managers, scientists and other geomatics specialists in the use of different methodologies for acquiring, managing and analysing spatial and non spatial data and the impacts that different techniques, analysis and programs have with respect to managing natural resources. You will provide support on the use and provision of spatial analysis of heritage (ecological, cultural and marine), operational and socio-economic data for decision-making, planning, science and research and technical applications, including producing maps, charts and data reports. You will provide GIS and data management training and support to the Western and Northern Service Centre, and facilitate the integrated sharing and management of data.
