Project Archaeologist, Sto:lo Nation


PRINCIPLE DUTIES:
1. Initiate, direct and conduct archaeological research and resource management projects within the Stó:lō Traditional Territory
2. Assist with administration of the Stó:lō heritage Policy, involvement in cross-cultural awareness initiatives, research and writing proposals
3. Co-ordinate with archaeological and GIS staff to maintain databases and other information sets used in resource management and land use planning.
The Project Archaeologist will report to the Manger / Senior Archaeologist within the Stó:lô Research & Resource Management Centre. Work location will be based out of Chilliwack however some travel may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
• Must have a minimum Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology (with a focus in Archaeology) with minimum (3) years experience
• Must have strong organizational skills and a team player with a strong background and demonstrated skills in communications
• Must have knowledge and experience of federal, provincial and local governance policies/legislation related to heritage and First Nations
• Must have knowledge of the Stó:lō Heritage Policy
• Demonstrated ability to hold a Provincial Heritage Investigation/Inspection Permit
• Have proven ability to work on a variety of Windows computer programs including MS Word, Excel and Access. A familiarity with GIS is an asset
• Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage in field and office settings
• Familiarity and understanding of Stó:lō and/or other First Nations’ culture, traditions and history. Commitment to learning more about Stó:lō culture and history is essential
• Experience working within Stó:lō territory
• Level One First Aid training – Wilderness Fist Aid would be preferable
• Must be comfortable with working independently and in a collaborative team environment
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects in an effective manner
• Artifact curation skills would be an asset
• Public speaking skills are preferable
• Successful candidates will be required to provide the following if screened in for an interview:
• Proof of education documentation
• References: Three names and phone numbers of recent supervisors
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Drivers’ License
• Must successfully pass the required pre-employment RCMP Criminal records Check.
