New tutorial for creating digital Use-and-Occupancy maps from paper map biographies

The AMN is pleased to announce a new resource for Indigenous cultural mapping practitioners:

Mapping Use and Occupancy Data: A Manual for Creating Digital Maps from Paper Maps

This tutorial outlines a technical GIS process for converting paper raw map biographies into digital maps and will be of interest to GIS practitioners working with Indigenous communities, land and resource managers and community mappers.

Currently the manual is developed for ESRI ArcGIS software, but plans are afoot to create a version for the Open Source GIS program QGIS.

Future revisions will also include an expanded cartography section and downloadable UOMS icons.
