Heiltsuk Integrated Resource Management Department positions – Director & Land Manager


1) Director, Heiltsuk Integrated Resource Management Department


The Heiltsuk Tribal Council is seeking to fill the full-time position of Director, Heiltsuk Integrated Resource Management Department (HIRMD).

The HIRMD Director will be responsible for overseeing all activities of the Heiltsuk Integrated Resource Management Department. The Director will supervise integrated resource managers, evaluate integrated resource programs, and direct the operational management and maintenance of the HIRMD by:

  • Leading the strategic work planning and budgeting process with integrated resource department managers;
  • Leading the identification of funding sources and acting as the primary signing authority for HIRMD proposal writing;
  • Directing integrated resource activities and delegating tasks to integrated resource departments.

The Director will also be responsible for reporting on projects, programs and other indirect services to the HIRMD Board, the Heiltsuk Tribal Council, the HTC executive team and Heiltsuk membership.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in one or more of the following: natural or renewable resource management, land management, environmental studies, and five years work experience.
  • Extensive experience developing policies and procedures, strategic plans, goals, objectives and departmental work plans including annual budgets,
  • Well informed of new trends, current and future issues, federal and provincial laws, regulations, policies and procedures, programs and services, and assessing implications and usefulness to Heiltsuk Nation,
  • Previous experience with proposal writing, reporting to funders, overseeing special projects, keeping statistical information, budgets and work plan adherence,

    § Experience supervising management staff including: hiring, establishing work plans, establishing training plans, and evaluating department managers

  • Able to work flexible hours,

    § Team player, reliable, punctual, mature, outgoing personality,

  • Demonstrated computer literacy in the Microsoft Office suite,
  • professional code of conduct/role model,

2) Land Manager, Heiltsuk Integrated Resource Management Department


The Heiltsuk Tribal Council is seeking to fill the full-time position of Director, Heiltsuk Integrated Resource Management Department (HIRMD).

The Land Manager directs and leads the day-to-day activities of the Land and Resources department, establishing goals and evaluations, managing Land and Resources operations, directing research and correspondence for the Director, developing and submitting work plans, obtaining resources by co-developing and submitting proposals; is responsible for working directly with any new collaborative management agreements HTC develops with the Province and their Ministries, and reports to HIRMD Director of the Heiltsuk Integrated Resource Management Department, HIRMD Board and Heiltsuk Tribal Council

Qualifications:

  • A post secondary education is required and related experience in natural or renewable resource management, land management, environmental studies would be an asset
  • Experience leading internal resource department staff in the implementation stages and Manage individual and work team performance by setting goals and standards, evaluating performance and correcting where applicable,
  • Strategic thinker, an effective relationship builder, demonstrated administrative and technical skills
  • resource management planning or program management experience, and exhibits good conceptual, analytical and interpretive skills
  • Demonstrated experience leading and participating on project teams
  • Demonstrated success in conflict resolution/negotiation.
  • Good understanding of Strategic Land Use Plan Agreement & Land and Resource Protocol Agreement projects
  • Demonstrated familiarity with current and evolving case law, re: Aboriginal Title and Rights case law, and government consultation and accommodation policies.
  • Preference will be given to Heiltsuk members and resident in Bella Bella
