The Interdisciplinary Centre for the Development of Ocean Mapping
(CIDCO) is a marine geomatics R&D organization. Dedicated to the
enhancement of state-of-the-art technology for marine geospatial data
acquisition, management and graphic representation, the CIDCO is a not
for profit organization answering the R&D needs of the industry and
the community at large.


Job Description
:

Under guidance and
supervision of CIDCO’s executive director, the successful
candidate will be responsible for the scientific development of the
centre and its positioning as a centre of scientific excellence at both
national and international levels. The successful candidate will be
responsible for overseeing the development of scientific projects and
of strategic partnerships with scientists from academia and research
centres specialized in technologies related to the acquisition,
processing, analysis and management of marine geospatial data.

Duties and
Responsibilities
:

  • Determine the
    scientific concepts that will be applied within CIDCO’s mandates;
  • Integrate a
    scientific vision within CIDCO’s project management approach;
  • Collaborate with
    the other scientists and specialists of CIDCO in order to ensure the
    technical and scientific quality of projects;
  • Write proposals
    and grant submissions for scientific projects;
  • Oversee a dynamic
    technological watch and its dissemination as a scientific bulletin to
    strategic partners;
  • Create a
    scientific committee to guide CIDCO in its choice of research and
    development projects;
  • Lead CIDCO’s
    technological transfer process to industries;
  • Lead the writing
    and presentation of scientific papers for national and international
    conferences;
  • Oversee the
    scientific content of project reports submitted to clients;
  • Propose the
    development of marine geomatics technologies and methodologies.

Required Experience
and Education
:

  • University Doctorate degree in a related field,
    such as
    geomatics, hydrography, oceanography, geology, geophysics;
  • Thorough understanding of modern analysis
    techniques relevant to the present position;
  • Knowledge of cartographic concepts, computers,
    statistics and analytical modeling;
  • Knowledge of the challenges and opportunities
    in the marine sector would be a definite asset.


Skills and Aptitudes Sought
:

  • Capacity of working in a team environment in a
    scientific discipline;
  • Aptitude of working under a project management
    approach;
  • Capacity of working independently and of taking
    initiatives;
  • Openness and proven interest in using a
    multidisciplinary approach;
  • Able to synthesize information to facilitate
    problem solving;
  • French and English spoken and written fluently.
    Good spoken and written communication skills are an asset.


Work Conditions
:

  • Renewable annual
    contract (40 hours / week);

    qualifications and experiences;
