Education
Graduation from a recognized university with a degree in civil engineering or another engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
 
Occupational Certification
Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position
 
Experience
. Experience in conducting hydrologic and open channel hydraulic studies or investigations;
. Experience in planning water resource engineering projects, working with project teams and in project management;
. Experience in researching and writing technical reports.

  • ASSET QUALIFICATIONS (education and experience):
    . Post-graduate degree with specialization in hydrology, hydraulics. or another engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
    . Experience in the planning and delivering training and facilitating technology transfer to technical staff.
    . Experience in the measurement and analysis of open channel flow and other environmental data.
    . Experience in the computerized acquisition and analysis of instrumentation data and information
    . Experience in leading and/or contributing in technical committees on programs relating to water issues.
    . Experience in working with stakeholders, contractors, suppliers and/or technical staff.
    . Experience in the design or construction of stream gauging stations and networks.
    . Experience in conducting stream gauging studies/work in demanding field conditions.
    . Experience in the development, the applicability and the use of hydrologic and hydraulic models and GIS (Geographic Information Systems).
    . Experience with data management and computer programming
    . Experience communicating scientific information to a public audience and/or the media.
  • OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
    -Work may be conducted outdoors, in remote area, in a variety of weather and physical conditions, ranging from mild to harsh.
  • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    . Reliability Status
    . Must possess a valid driver’s license and agree to drive a motor vehicle.
    . Pre-employment medical.
    . The requirement to carry out field activities in, over, and around water, from bridges and cableways and on ice cover.
    . The requirement to travel to the United States and other international locations.
    . The requirement to travel in chartered fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft, boats, all terrain vehicles and snowmobiles. 
    . The requirement to spend extensive periods of time away from home.
Statement of Merit Criteria

Challenge
Plans and performs independent studies involving engineering work, as part of a project or a continuing operation related to hydrometric, hydrologic and hydraulic water resources monitoring and applications. Adapts and applies standards and guidelines in accordance with established engineering practices and within specified objectives. Prepares project plans and estimates, and develops contract or system specifications., Designs and develops testing systems and techniques for use in measuring characteristics of system, devices and components. Discusses and evaluates results, provides guidance and interpretations to professional staff, client representatives and employees. Advises stakeholders, e.g. other levels of government and OGDs on proposals, engineering reports, plans, designs, processes and equipment, and makes recommendations to senior staff. Works independently and on project teams. Coordinates the work of contractors and consultants, and/or supervises and guides the work of subordinates.
