QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma or degree in Natural Resource Management or Environmental Science, or equivalent
- Two years management experience
- Minimum one year experience in working with computer word processing and data management programs.
- Extensive knowledge of Deh Cho lands, resources, harvesting practices, customs, and culture.
- Knowledge of the Deh Cho Process, the Deh Cho Interim Measures Agreement, the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act, and other applicable land and resource legislation.
- Able to operate sophisticated computer resource programs required to carry out duties
- Ability to speak South Slavey a definite asset.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
KEY FUNCTIONS
Works closely with Deh Cho First Nations community government and technical staff, in maintaining and developing mapping projects and programs that fall under the Deh Cho resources. Collects information on land use, writes reports, prepares for meetings as required, and organizes and documents meetings and workshops.
Works routinely at a computer work station. Also works with the community on programs. Deals with the general public on a daily basis.
Supervises trainee as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

3. Communicate with the Deh Cho members of the following Boards: Land and Water Panel, Environmental Impact Review Board, Land Use Planning Committee, and the Deh Cho Negotiating Team. | • Maintain friendly, co-operative relationship with each at all times. • Provide information, listen to and record responses |
4. Use the Deh Cho Geographic Information System. a) input data b) digitize map data c) retrieve data and uses |
• Able to identify affected traditional land use, occupancy activities, and natural resource information. |
5. Obtain specialized technical advice as necessary. | |
6. Supervise consultants and manage a Professional Services budget under the Interim Measures Agreement Budget. a) Prepare requests for proposals b) Monitor work schedule and quality |
• Ensure all projects are operated within budget (variance of 5%) and project requirements |
7. Maintain a file system tracking land and resource use applications, responses, and decisions. | • Ensure files are secure at all times and log kept on outgoing files, maps, inventory, etc. • Information to be retrieved within one hour. |
