Short-term employment at the Forestry Centre, Natural Resources Canada

We’re looking for a talented individual to do some GIS work over the summer.  You will need to have experience in GIS, and have experience with software programs Arc and Microsoft Access.

This work is with the Carbon Accounting Team (http://carbon.cfs.nrcan.gc.ca/CBM-CFS3_e.html).  Part of our work is to estimate forest carbon stocks, changes in carbon stocks, and emissions of non-CO2 greenhouse gases in Canada’s managed forests.

We integrate information – such as forest inventories, temporary and permanent sample plots, statistics on fires and insects, and systems quantifying forest growth and yield – into a modeling framework that incorporates the best available information and scientific understanding of the ecological processes involved in forest carbon cycling.

The project is to reconcile the spatial polygon units (SPU) and the inventory datasets to make a complete and accurate SPU polygon dataset. This task will require some basic knowledge of the spatial framework of the Carbon Budget Model (CBM-CFS3) input database format.
