Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have graduated from an approved Forestry/Resources Management program or a related discipline and have experience in forest management activities or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Other requirements include: demonstrated experience in silviculture practices/surveys, timber management, technical field mapping or other related programs; demonstrated strong written communication skills including the ability to prepare technical reports; and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work cooperatively and respectfully with various groups such as First Nations communities, associate staff, government and non-government agencies, contractors and the public. Demonstrated strong problem solving and decision making skills; strong organizational skills; experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access) or equivalent software applications; experience in the use of GIS (ArcView, Arc-explorer) and GPS applications; and ability to work independently and under own initiative are also required. Demonstrated ability to perform aerial photo interpretation and transfer mapping techniques; knowledge of the Forest Act and regulations; and demonstrated field experience in supervising subordinate staff and contractors in forestry activities, including tree planting and site preparation are preferred. Possession of, or willingness to obtain a valid First Aid / CPR Certificate and a Manitoba Scalers license and demonstrated experience working with mechanical/motorized equipment including ATV’s is also preferred.
An eligibility list may be established for up to one year for similar future vacancies at various locations throughout the province.
Conditions of employment:
Candidates must possess and maintain a valid full Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License; must be physically able of performing all duties assigned to this position; and must be willing and able to travel throughout Manitoba to remote areas for extended periods of time including overnight stays; work in extreme weather conditions; and stay in bunkhouses or other similar types of accommodations.

Duties:
As a team member with the Regional Forestry Operations and under direction of the Forester the incumbant delivers Forest Management, Timber Management and Silviculture Programs in the region. The incumbent is also responsible to provide technical services to the Forester and the Integrated Resource Management Team to ensure the implementation of sound forest management strategies within the Region. On an intermittent basis the incumbent will supervise subordinate seasonal staff and contractors.
