Reporting to the Territorial Archaeologist, the GIS Officer provides GIS products, services, expertise, and advice to departmental personnel and external clients in the Government of the Northwest Territories, federal government, aboriginal organizations, private industry and the general public in order to assist in the management, monitoring and protection of NWT heritage sites and places.
Applicants must be able to operate a GIS facility according to industry standards and required to submit a portfolio of images of GIS maps and other products. Understanding of the theory and methodology of mapping human cultural landscapes and ability to work with 3D and temporal data is required. Project management skills are required along with artistic/cartographic abilities. Good communication skills both verbal and written are also required.
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by the completion of an undergraduate degree in geography with an emphasis in spatial analysis techniques and human landscape theory and methods and three (3) years of experience in GIS applications. Equivalent combinations of education and/or experience will be considered.
The salary starts at $35.06 per hour (approximately $68,367 per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $2,500.
