The Islands Trust Fund is creating a legacy of special places in the Islands Trust Area, protecting both natural and cultural features in perpetuity. As one of British Columbia’s leading conservation trusts, the Islands Trust Fund works with the community to protect special places by encouraging, undertaking, and assisting in voluntary conservation initiatives within the Islands Trust Area.
Reporting to the Island Trust Fund Manager, the Property Management Specialist ensures the successful implementation of stewardship and property management strategies for Islands Trust Fund owned properties and covenants. The Property Management Specialist develops management plans for all properties owned by the Islands Trust Fund and negotiates property management agreements with conservation management partners.
Duties include assessing properties for risk to ecological health and human safety, identifying and implementing management activities (including habitat restoration and property infrastructure needs, such as signage and trail maintenance), identifying and selecting appropriate management groups for Islands Trust Fund-owned properties, negotiating contracts for property management, liaising with island communities, providing land stewardship information to individuals and groups and assisting with the implementation of other Trust Area programs.
Education and Experience Requirements:
– Bachelor degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, geography, resource management or related field
– Two years’ experience in nature reserve management, ecological monitoring or related work
– Field experience with Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographical
Information Systems (GIS)
– Experience with project management and risk management
– Experience with recruitment and management of volunteers
– Experience with land trust tools such as conservation covenants and landowner contact
– Knowledge of and concern for at-risk Gulf Island ecosystems
