The Environmental Stewardship Division within the Ministry of Environment is one of the three core business areas of the Ministry responsible for fish and wildlife species and habitats, managing the Province’s parks and protected areas, and allocation of natural resources for hunting, angling and wildlife viewing.

The Division is seeking a qualified, passionate individual for the role of Species at Risk Information Specialist. In this exciting and challenging role, your primary responsibility will be to manage client and partner requests for CDC (Conservation Data Centre) species and ecosystems at risk information. You will also provide administrative management and support in the development and preparation of policies, procedures, and systems that support and coordinate the flow of CDC information.

As the key provincial contact for species and ecosystems at risk information, you’ll work with limited supervision to: coordinate responses to information requests from clients and partners; provide, administer, and support CDC policies, procedures and standards; and, ensure the smooth production of spatial information, including management of the spatial application Biotics Mapper (a modified ArcView application). Candidates must have a strong personal commitment to service quality and to achieving results.
This role requires tact, diplomacy, and discretion as we work to ensure ongoing strong partnerships based on trust and cooperation.

Our ideal candidate demonstrates considerable GIS training and experience, specific to natural resource information systems. Ideally, you should have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., biology, conservation management, geography, geographic information systems) or a related major and one (1) year experience with biological datasets, or a Master’s degree in a related field with at least 6 months experience with biological datasets or other relevant combination of education and experience.
Considerable GIS training and experience specific to natural resource information systems required.
