Regional Ecosystem Management Division (Labrador), Forestry and Agrifoods Agency, Department of Natural Resources, Happy Valley/Goose Bay, NL
Duties: Provides advanced technical competence in the development, application and administration of a geographic information system (GIS), remotely sensing (RS) data bases, sustainable resource management, computer programming, integrated resource computer modeling and system design. Acts as a project leader, supervises staff. Monitors, investigates and corrects production problems associated with Geographic Information System. Designs, writes and tests programs for GIS/RS using ARC/INFO commands. Makes recommendations on practical forest resource applications relating to GIS/RS and GPS. Provides support to other resource agencies including government agencies, aboriginal groups, etc. Conducts periodic review in the field. Provides system proposals.
Qualifications: A strong working knowledge of GIS, RS and mapping related to project management, workflow analysis and design, geodatabase design, desktop ArcGIS, Workstation Arc/info. Arcview 3.x, PCI Geomatica, Othoengine, and RDBMS is essential. A working knowledge of digital orthophotograph, photogrammerty, ArcSDE, Oracle and Global Position Systems would be definite asset. Candidates must have strong oral and written communication, analytical and organizational skills and ability to work independently. The above qualifications would normally have been acquired through graduation from a recognized university with a degree in Geography or Science, with major course work in the geomatics field supplemented by considerable experience in project management, workflow analysis and design, programming, coordination and support of large scale mapping and GIS operation in a forestry or related field. A certification in GIS or RS from a recognized college would be an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
Salary: $47, 411.00 – $52,889.20 per annum (GS-38)
(Plus Labrador Allowance: $4,300 with dependent; $2,150 without dependent)
