GIS Technician – Yarmouth, Nova Scotia


The Town of Yarmouth requires a GIS Technician to support the ongoing maintenance and dissemination of data and applications in the GIS environment. The technician will work with various municipal departments to ensure that their needs for GIS information are met.

The technician is responsible for ongoing spatial data collection, maintenance and dissemination, end-user support and the generation of maps, databases and other GIS reports and information products.

Qualifications:

The successful applicant will have completed a minimum two year Diploma Program in Geographic Information Systems, Civil Engineering Technology, Planning Technology or an equivalent program. Strong organizational and time management skills are a must for this position. Candidates will be required to work with minimal supervision and must be proficient in a variety of computer applications, including Arc View 8.0 or higher, MS Office Suite. You must have strong GPS skills with the ability to post-process collected data and experience with Trimble GeoXT and Trimble GeoBeacon.

A minimum of 2 years experience in a related field is required. Experience with a municipal unit would be considered an asset.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
