GIS Systems Support Technician

General Accountabilities:
– Perform data management and analysis of GIS based asset inventory systems for transmission lines and cables.
– Support developing and reviewing GIS based system enhancements and requirement definitions.
– Support preparation of Request for Proposals, coordination and execution of field data update programs.
– Recommend and assist in implementation of all changes as approved to GIS based asset inventory systems.
– Participate in verifying accurate locations of transmission and distribution line assets.
– Develop and generate special reports on specific field installation conditions of transmission lines and cables.
– Assist in monitoring the performance of distribution & transmission lines and cables through asset condition data analysis.
– Support technical studies and risk evaluations of transmission and distribution lines sub-systems & components.
– Assist in development of line maintenance and capital replacement work for transmission programs, and electronic documentation system.

Selection Criteria
Essential Knowledge:
– Requires advanced knowledge of computer information technology and GIS database principles.
– Requires sound knowledge in data management and analysis of information systems.
– Requires sound knowledge of ArcGIS, ArcFM based applications and SQL programming.
– Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
– Must be a self-starter with excellent organizational skills and multi tasking ability.
– Requires occasional over night travel throughout the Province.
– Requires a valid driver license.
– Grade XII plus up to three year further concentrated study.

Essential Experience:
– Experience in data management and analysis using software applications and data bases.
– Experience in upgrade and maintenance of GIS based data in management of assets.
– Requires understanding of the transmission and distribution power system configuration.
– Experience in ability to review and interpret transmission single line diagrams.
– Requires working knowledge of MS Access & PowerPoint applications.
– Requires experience to be familiar with the organization, facilities available, contacts and information sources.
– Experience to work and achieve business goals in a team environment.
– A period of over six years, up to and including 8 years, is considered necessary to gain this experience.
