Culture & Community Spirit , Edmonton – The Historic Resources Management Branch is looking for an enthusiastic individual with a strong background in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and related data and systems analysis. This is an opportunity to apply your skills in a fascinating and important area of government responsibility – the protection, conservation, and interpretation of Alberta’s historic resources, from houses and churches to prehistoric tipi rings and rock art.

The HRM Branch consists of dedicated professionals with a passion for managing and interpreting Alberta’s heritage for the public good. There is considerable room for initiative and creativity as you bring your technical abilities to bear on this challenge in a collaborative team environment. You will use your skills and experience to fulfill the responsibilities of GIS technical support, creation and maintenance of spatial datasets, administration of GIS workflows, cartographic mapping, data analysis and research, and web-based GIS application development.

Striving for excellence and accountability, while communicating with respect and integrity, you will serve as an important resource for the HRM Branch. Advanced level skills in using ESRI GIS products are required for this position. Experience with web design, programming, land use administration, or historical resources would all be assets. You will have opportunities for on-going self-directed learning and accredited training to stay current with the complex and evolving field of GIS and geospatial analysis.

Qualifications: The position requires a college diploma or university degree in GIS, computing science or a related field, combined with several years of experience in GIS technology and spatial data management and analysis. Equivalencies will be considered.
