JOB SUMMARY: Reporting to the Environment, Capital Lands and Parks (ECLP) Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Coordinator, the GIS Technician provides operational support services to the ECLP Branch Divisions (Gatineau Park & Greenbelt, Environmental Management and Protection, Urban Lands and Transportation, Official Residences) through GIS. He/she manages, maintains, modifies and analyses municipal, environmental, land and utility asset information in order to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the ECLP portion of the NCC GIS and the corporate Integrated Asset Management Information System (IAMIS). He/she conducts other special operational and administrative support projects.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
Post-secondary degree in a field related to the job functions, including a specialization in Geographic Information Systems, or a pertinent combination of education, training and experience.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three (3) year experience in:
- The use of ESRI’s ArcGIS software;
- The use and support of a GIS;
- The provision of GIS and other system application user support and training.
RATED REQUIREMENTS
KNOWLEDGE:
- Of the geography of the National Capital Region, the NCC and its mandate;
- Of the ESRI’s Desktop GIS (v. 9.x ArcMap & ArcCatalog) and AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009;
- Of land management and civil operational functions.
ABILITIES:
- To use ArcGIS to maintain and update the spatial and logical integrity of an enterprise geodatabase;
- To manage the topological relationships and data validation of an enterprise geodatabase;
- To convert and integrate geographic data between AutoCAD and ArcGIS;
- To employ a meticulous attention to intricate detail;
- To implement the use of customized tools and processes;
- To edit civil and utility geodatabases;
- To use analytical skills;
- To set and meet objectives and work with a minimum level of supervision;
- To organize workload and balance conflicting priorities;
- To work in a team environment and negotiate with clients.
