First Nations’ Emergency Services Society of British Columbia (FNESS), under the governance of a First Nations’ Board of Directors, assists First Nations to develop safe and healthy communities through a diverse range of services.

FNESS is currently inviting applications for the position of Environmental Specialist.

This position is based in our Vancouver office and reports to the Coordinator Technical & Environmental Services. It is a temporary, full time position to cover for a maternity leave.

The Environmental Specialist is responsible for assisting in the development, management, and delivery of FNESS’ technical and environmental programs and services for First Nation communities in B.C. and is expected to support the goals of the society in the delivery of these programs. FNESS’ technical and environmental programs and services include, but are not limited to: management of the Fuel Storage Tank Removal/Replacement Program; Solid Waste Management initiatives; community education and awareness programs; and, Fuel Handling and Oil Spill Response trainings.

In addition to excellent communication, teamwork and computer skills, applicants for this position
should have the following:
• Bachelor Degree in Science, Environmental Studies or other related field
• Minimum Diploma in Technology, related to Environmental Science
• Minimum Three (3) Years of relevant work experience in the environmental field
• Excellent planning, organizational and coordination skills
• Experience in mentoring others
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Sound knowledge of MS Office applications, especially Word and Excel

Preferred Additional Qualifications:
• Project management, coordination and administrative experience
• Experience in working with First Nations peoples
• Experience working for a society / non-profit organisation
• A valid driver’s license

The Successful Candidate:
• Must be willing and able to travel for project site visits
• Will be subject to a criminal record check
