Hours of Work: This position works a standard 35 hour work week.

Responsibilities
A challenging opportunity exists in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Centre for a highly motivated and team-oriented GIS professional with excellent communication and change management leadership skills. The GIS Data Coordinator is responsible for developing and enforcing governance mechanisms for the management and provision of geographic data within the corporate GIS environment. The successful candidate will establish, coordinate and implement strategies, policies and standards for the maintenance, integration and conversion of the Corporation’s shared geographic data resources. Primary duties include:
– create, implement and maintain the geographic data management infrastructure required to support the Corporation’s GIS environment;
– establish, implement and enforce geographic data standards and management methodologies;
– develop and coordinate geographic data models and architectures for the Corporation;
– establish integration mechanisms between data management initiatives with other internal and external partners;
– facilitate and support the development, acquisition and management of corporate geographic data assets with business unit representatives;
– communicate and educate GIS data stewards, maintainers and users on GIS data management policies, standards and methodologies.
Qualifications
The successful applicant will possess a degree (equivalent to 3-4 years full-time study) in GIS, Geography, Planning, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, and a minimum of four years of experience in planning, designing and implementing GIS technology, preferably in a local government environment. The successful applicant must have experience in developing and managing geographic data using ESRI’s ArcGIS technology (ArcGIS Desktop, ArcIMS, ArcGIS Server and ArcSDE) platform in conjunction with an Oracle database. Skills should also include object-oriented data modeling practices and methodologies with specific application to geographic databases, UML /Visio or other CASE tools, and advanced expertise with ESRI’s geodatabase architecture, ArcSDE administration, version management and spatial index tuning. Experience with other geo-spatial technology platforms would be an asset. Strong interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to write and present management level reports are required.
