DUTIES: The successful candidate:

  • Organizes and carries out First Nations consultation activities to support BC Hydro and BC Transmission Corporation projects
  • Develops consultation/project plans which include project milestones and budget forecasts
  • Reports out on implementation of project plans
  • Provides expert advice and direction to other business units
  • Manages consultants
  • Manages contractual relationships between First Nations and BC Hydro and the BC Transmission Corporation
  • Conducts analysis on highly complex First Nation issues. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have:

  • Project management skills, experience working in a large regulated corporate environment
  • A university degree in engineering, public or business administration, public policy, or equivalent
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience
  • Proven ability to develop and advance complex strategic business solutions
  • Proven success in developing and implementing First Nations consultation plans
  • A strong background in business planning and reporting with well developed analytical skills
  • Expertise in negotiations
  • Strong persuasive influencing skills
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills
  • The ability to work well in teams and independently
  • Well developed emotional intelligence
  • The ability to work in a busy environment, with competing priorities and limited direction
  • A comprehensive understanding of the goals and aspirations of Aboriginal people in BC and knowledge of First Nations issues as they relate to the energy industry and the ability and desire to travel to First Nation Communities.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 

  • This position has corporate-wide responsibility for First Nations issues as they relate to BC Hydro’s generation, transmission and distribution facilities
  • Responsibilities will vary to align to the overall business priorities of the Aboriginal Relations & Negotiations business unit
  • This role is particularly well-suited for professionals who enjoy working in new and evolving areas where they are required to seek solutions where industry or legal precedents are constantly evolving
  • Background in First Nations issues is an asset
  • The successful candidate will be solution-based with a strong bias for action.
