Use your technical expertise in leading state-of-the art GeographicInformation System (GIS) related database technologies at the Ministryof the Environment, Environmental Monitoring and Reporting Branch tocreate and administer databases with biomonitoring, water quality andterrestrial data in support of Ministry programs.You will edit and perform data-quality checks on scientific andtechnical data; monitor and maintain communication links to otherdatabases; liaise with other Ministry scientific and technical staff andexternal agencies to support data exchanges and updates; providetechnical guidance to scientists with use of specialized computerprograms for data analysis and reporting; develop consistent guidelinesfor user-oriented program interfaces in a diverse, multi-user environment.

*Qualifications:*

Knowledge of theories, principles and practices ofenvironmental science, biology, ecology or related discipline and ofgeographic theories used in GIS. Knowledge of environmental legislation(e.g. Environmental Protection Act, Ontario Water Resources Act,Environmental Assessment Act, Environmental Bill of Rights) and abilityto interpret policies and guidelines relating to environmentalprotection and management (e.g. air, water, land). Knowledge of databasemanagement and demonstrated knowledge of GIS related database softwaresuch as ArcGIS, Oracle, ArcSDE. Analytical, evaluative, reasoning andinterpretive skills to assess data, identify problems and compilegeospatial databases. Problem solving skills to diagnose and resolvetechnical problems. Demonstrated organizational and planning skills.Excellent consulting and oral and written communications skills.Knowledge of office computer operation and relevant software programs(e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, graphics) and programming languages.
