Reporting to the Manager, NWT Centre for Geomatics, the Geomatics Applications
Systems Specialist is responsible for management, maintenance, user support,
training and growth planning for the NWT Centre for Geomatics geographic
information systems (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) software and all related
websites. The NWT Centre for Geomatics is the Government of the Northwest
Territories’ resource centre for satellite imagery, geographic databases, remote
sensing and GIS software, equipment and expertise.
Applicants must have current knowledge of Geomatics application systems, as well
as have in depth knowledge of ArcGIS and PCI software, remote sensing and GIS
principles. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience with
scripting and programming languages relating to ESRI software, as well as
demonstrated experience with web based languages and protocols. Knowledge of
metadata and metadata standards is required. Effective oral and written
communication skills are also required, along with strong computer skills.
These skills are normally acquired through a university degree in Remote Sensing,
GIS, or Geomatics, and by five (5) years of experience in Geomatics application
support, and systems management in geographic information systems and remote
sensing environment. Equivalent combinations of education and/or experience will
be considered.
The salary starts at $42.07 per hour (approximately $82,037 per annum) plus an
annual Northern Allowance of $2,500.

over the next six months.
