POSITION DESCRIPTION
Reports to: DIRECTOR OF LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT
Job Classification A280
Salary Range: $46,812 – $55,945
Job Summary:
The Researcher is responsible for guiding the development and implementation of First Nations language and cultural resource management research for the Centre. The role includes research design, data analysis and synthesis, report preparation, partnership building (provincially, nationally and internationally), and knowledge exchange with academic, community and government audiences, for several projects.
Qualifications:
• Under-Graduate degree or equivalent professional designation in Arts with a specialization in Indigenous Studies
• Ability to design, implement and synthesize research and research findings
• Ability to develop and use qualitative and quantitative data collection tools
• Demonstrated understanding of established research principles and guidelines for First Nations communities
• Knowledge of First Nations government and non-First Nations governments, programs, and policies related to the Saskatchewan Indian Cultural Centre’s mandate;
• Knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture, customs, and history.
• Knowledge of First Nations communities, traditions and cultural protocols
• Ability to speak a First Nation language
Skills and Abilities:
Self-motivated — Be a self-motivated, highly organized individual who is able to work with little or no supervision.
Communication — Possess superior communications skills, both verbal and written. Must be able to assimilate information and frame it in simple, concise terms
Organization — Must be organized and have the ability to compile and summarize information that can be used in future projects. Attention to detail is desired.
Technical — Must be able to function in a computerized environment. Must possess excellent research abilities, including use of the Internet and possess a working knowledge of the current Microsoft Office software, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation computer programs required.
Relationship Building — Ability to work successfully with a wide range of groups and individuals, including First Nation community groups, researchers, the public sector and multiple levels of government.
