Program Coordinator, Fraser Salmon and Watersheds (Fraser Basin Council)


Position Location: Vancouver, BC*

Reporting to the FBC Program Manager for the Fraser Salmon and Watersheds Program
(FSWP), this position assists in the effective management of that program. In addition, the
Program Coordinator works closely with senior staff to provide advice, strategic direction and
assistance as needed to support the effective implementation of FSWP initiatives.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

This position will contribute to the implementation of the Fraser Salmon and Watersheds Program within a team environment. Activities include:

  • Managing and coordinating projects as part of the program, including preparation of requests for proposals and contracts, coordination of proposal solicitation and review processes, facilitation of project team and overall management of process to ensure project delivery within timelines.
  • Working with clients, partners and potential partners, providing advice and guidance and assessing results of activities.
  • Supporting operations by providing detailed briefing notes as appropriate, organizing, attending and recording meetings, and responding to requests for information or follow-up actions.
  • Tracking projects and assessing and/or evaluating the progress of projects and of the program.
  • Tracking, reviewing, assessing, and summarizing reports on project status.
  • Tracking expenditures and reconciling payments.
  • Developing written material, including information summaries, internal and external briefing material and presentations.
  • Preparing reports for Directors, the Board, and Board committees.
  • Working within a team to develop work plans in order to meet strategic objectives.
  • Reviewing and assessing projects in order to allocate resources and/or provide guidance.
  • Providing strategic advice on initiatives and on strategic directions within the management team.
  • Representing the program and/or the Fraser Basin Council in a variety of inter-agency and initiatives and processes.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Good knowledge of issues, threats, challenges, initiatives and techniques related to salmon and salmon habitat, stewardship, conservation and restoration
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary and/or inter-jurisdictional teams
  • Demonstrated skills in managing complex projects
  • Superior ability to involve and communicate with a variety of stakeholders and the public
  • Knowledge and understanding of environmental, economic and social dimensions of sustainability issues, policies and practices
  • Experience with or knowledge of government decision-making and policy development
  • Knowledge of collaborative management approaches and consensus-based decision-making
  • Ability to lead, facilitate and support committees, task forces and work groups in the development and implementation of policies, plans and programs
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to respond to evolving organizational priorities
  • University/college degree, preferably in resource and environmental management; ecology; biology; community, regional and land use planning; geography and/or other relevant expertise
