This is skilled technical mapping work related to the creation, maintenance and distribution of GIS data and related information; including assembling spatial and related attribute data; producing standard and related maps, reports and analyses; maintaining geographic information databases. The position involves extensive use of Autodesk MAP, Oracle Spatial, MS/Access and SQL/Server for the input and editing of data.
An incumbent exercises considerable independence of judgement and action in performing assigned duties referring or discussing the more complex problems with a superior who reviews work performance during progress and/or on completion in terms of accuracy and neatness to detail and adherence to current standards and requirements. The work requires a high level of accuracy.
Courses in computerized mapping at an Institute of Technology, along with mapping experience related to municipal systems (i.e. engineering, lands and planning, or an equivalent combination of training and experience) is desired. Certificate(s) from a recognized technical program in spatial information systems and two years experience in the operation of geographic information systems, particularly the Autodesk products is also preferred. A valid B.C. Drivers Licence is required.
