POSITION/TITLE:                 Archive Technician

 

TERMS:                                  Part-time (December 31, 2008 end date)

 

NATURE & SCOPE OF WORK

SCES is seeking a student who was enrolled full-time in an educational institution during the 2007-2008 academic year and has returned to full-time education (secondary or post-secondary) in September.  The Archive Technician will be required to work a mutually agreed upon schedule in the SCES Language & Culture Department.  This entry-level employment opportunity is funded by Young Canada Works.

 

DUTIES

  • Catalogue documents, photos and maps;
  • Data entry;
  • Set up and operate technical equipment related to archival projects (e.g., scanner);
  • Perform repetitive duties such as digitizing, data entry, scanning, etc.;
  • Assist with conference/meetings logistics;
  • Provide reception support ; and
  • Assist with various other projects related to Secwepemc language and culture.

 

PERFERRED KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of Secwepemc people, culture and history;
  • Proven ability to critically review quality and relevance of materials;
  • Understanding of written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents;
  • Communicate effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience;
  • Ability to interpret, explain and apply written and oral instruction, procedures and regulations;
  • Meet predetermined deadlines and be flexible in shifting to new tasks when priorities change;
  • Ability to manage and perform multiple tasks simultaneously;
  • Maintain confidentiality of information, impartial reportage and an ethical attitude; and
  • Must be precise, accurate and meticulous.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Must have demonstrated competence in previous employment experience.
