Established in 1966 to address the post-secondary educational needs of West Kootenay / Boundary residents, Selkirk College has been called one of the best-kept secrets in the province. Nestled in the Selkirk Mountains in the southeast corner of British Columbia, the College serves over 2,500 full time and 8,700 part-time students each year with a wide variety of programs, such as University Arts and Sciences courses, adult basic education, trades, craft and design, nursing and other health programs, as well as many career programs in music, digital media, renewable resources, aviation, hospitality/tourism and others.

An instructor is required to teach in Geographic Information Systems program area. Subject areas include: Cartography Fundamentals (GIS 318); GIS Project Management (GIS 427); Remote Sensing 1 & @ (GIS 306/GIS 307); GIS applications in Regional Districts (GIS 331); and Spatial Statistics (GIS 4325).

Applicants should have a minimum of a Master’s Degree GIS or a related field. Candidates must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and experience working successfully in teams. Preference will be given to applicants with previous teaching experience to a variety of GIS skill levels, and experience with Remote sensing applications.

This is a short term replacement position at a 72% appointment for the period of October 13, 2008 to May 15, 2009. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Selkirk College Faculty Association collective agreement. The salary range is $4,227.58-$6,747.67 (at a 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications and experience. Depending on the background of the successful applicant, there may be geospatial research opportunities available that would augment the proportion of the assignment.
