Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) Researcher


The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN) is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Researcher out of the FSIN Saskatoon office.

The individual will be responsible for undertaking research on First Nation traditional lands/territories and Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) (a.k.a. Traditional Ecological Knowledge-TEK), with the objective of developing position papers, legislation, databases, and  other tools to be utilized by the FSIN, Tribal Councils and First Nations. This position will assist First Nations in the identification of IKS studies, methodology, collection and proper storage of
Indigenous Knowledge (IK), using necessary protocols, develop an implementation plan for the IK portion of the First Nations Fish Habitat Stewardship Framework, develop methodology of utilizing IK in the protection and management of natural resources, analyzing policy, preparation and delivery of oral presentations. Travel will be required.

Qualifications: Minimum requirements are a bachelors degree in anthropology/natural
resources/biology or other relevant field and four years experience in research. A combination of education and experience will be considered. Candidates should also possess analytical skills with the ability to prepare comprehensive reports, a general knowledge of the FSIN structure and legislative processes, existing First Nations, federal and provincial legislation, and knowledge and understanding of First Nations customs, culture and history.
