IIED is looking for an inspiring forestry leader to develop and manage a programme of research and partnership building to improve the sustainability and local livelihood benefits of forestry. If you believe that forestry involves multiple goods, services and stakeholders and that locally-owned decision-making and international support are vital to improve forest investment and stakeholders empowerment, by joining the team you will be able to directly influence the setting up of a global forest partnership initiative.
Educated to a post-graduate level in a relevant discipline, you are aware of international forestry policy initiatives and frameworks. You have the ability to influence, negotiate, and create credibility through the use of clear and effective communication skills, and proven experience of leading and inspiring others. You have practical work experience in Africa, Asia or Latin America. Experience in one or more of the following countries would be desirable: Ghana, Tanzania, Mozambique, Uganda, India, The Philippines, Nepal, Guatemala or Brazil. Fluent in English, you also have good working knowledge of a second language (e.g. French, Spanish or Portuguese), as well excellent written communication skills to reach different audiences both technical and non-technical. The Natural Resources Group works towards IIED’s overall aim to research and achieve sustainable development at local, national regional and global levels by building capacities and promoting local decision-making in communities across the developing world. Local control and management of natural resources are key to achieving this aim, coupled with policy change at the national and international level. Through its three programmes – Drylands; Sustainable Agriculture, Biodiversity and Livelihoods; and Forestry and Land Use – the Group explores a range of specific research themes, of which forestry is one.
