PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT, GEOMATICS BRANCH
Temporary Full-Time (Approx. 1 year), Salary $32.41 to $35.23
Reporting to the Manager, Business Solutions, the GIS Technologist maintains and evolves York Region’s GIS infrastructure by creating and maintaining internet-based mapping applications and services, for Geomatics Branch projects and clients.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post secondary degree or diploma in GIS, Computer Science, Planning or related discipline with an emphasis on GIS, or equivalent experience and education.
- Minimum of two years practical experience working with GIS technology, including spatial data creation and the creation of cartographic and analytic products.
- Valid Ontario Class "G" driver’s license and reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self management and accountability, and flexibility/adaptability.
- Ability to implement GIS applications.
- Technical knowledge of GIS software and techniques (incl. ArcMap, ArcInfo, ArcSDE).
- Technical knowledge of relational database systems.
- Ability to apply new technologies with minimal guidance.
- Working understanding of programming languages (eg VBA)
- Understanding/experience of QA/QC principles and data integrity issues.
- Analytic and problem solving skills.
- Ability to teach GIS to user community.
- Knowledge of municipal government responsibilities and practices.
- Ability to work outside regular hours as required
