The GIS Technician is responsible for providing technical support to all Midwest Surveys’ office locations and external clients. Technical support includes but is not limited to: – geospatial data design, development, and maintenance – general and project specific mapping and analysis – communication/education regarding GIS best practices, solutions, and industry standards/trends to both internal and external clients.
EDUCATION: A College technical diploma in GIS, cartography, drafting or mapping – A minimum of 1 to 3 years experience in GIS, cartography, drafting or mapping – Experience with Geomatics/land surveying, and oil & gas industry considered an asset. – Provincial/National/International certifications and/or designations considered an asset
Key Competencies and Behavioral Attributes: ESRI ArcGIS 9.x (ArcView, ArcCatalog, 3D Analyst, Spatial Analyst, Maplex); Autodesk Map 3D 200x; FME; Relational database technologies such Microsoft Access or SQL Server; Scripting languages such as VBA; Solid understanding of datums and map projections; Strong problem solving abilities, attention to detail; Self motivated, team player.
