GIS Specialist – Oak Hammock Marsh, Manitoba (Term)


Summary—Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is seeking a team player with strong geospatial and information management skills to join us as a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist for a one year term position, located at DUC’s national offices at Oak Hammock Marsh, near Stonewall, Man.

You possess the following qualities to fulfill the requirements of this position:

  • Training and experience in the concepts and use of GIS technology, including ESRI products.
  • Demonstrated ability to listen and translate user needs into a series of GIS procedures used to generate products that meet those needs.
  • Strong data management skills and an understanding of geodatabase functionality.
  • Strong project and time management skills to support success in a service oriented working environment.
  • Experience working and communicating with diverse groups of people in dynamic settings.
  • Interest in conservation and a background in natural resources.
  • High level of professionalism and attention to detail.

As a member of DUC’s GIS team you will participate in the development of a Conservation Geodatabase that houses the spatial representation of habitat projects in Canada. You will prepare habitat project plans for incorporation in the geodatabase. You will consult with field staff to compile and validate habitat project information. You will assist in the training of and provide technical support to field staff in the use of the ArcGIS applications. You will participate and help implement GIS projects and products in consultation with staff and partners to meet user needs. You will document and prepare interim progress reports.

You are a university or college graduate with training in Geographic Information Systems. You have completed courses in computer programming, database management systems, remote sensing, and statistics. You have excellent oral and written communication skills, are able to work independently and as a member of a team, are able to multitask, set priorities and meet rigid deadlines.
