Position: GFWC Contract for August: Compile GIS Data on Proposed Protected Areas

Contract opportunity: Global Forest Watch Canada (GFWC) is looking for a person to assist in compiling a GIS data layer (with a detailed attribute table) of proposed protected areas (>60) across Canada’s boreal forest as soon as possible! The position will require contacting Canadian ENGOs and provincial and territorial and First Nations governments to obtain data layers for their proposed boreal protected areas, and possibly, in cases where no digital data exists, digitizing the layers from paper maps.

The contractor will have access to a computer and telephone at the GFWC offices in Edmonton and will work under a GFWC GIS technician who has experience working with protected areas data.

The ideal candidate should have some GIS experience, be comfortable working with computers (email, web browser, MS office), and have good communication skills.

NOTE: this contract MUST be completed by August 31, 2008 (no exceptions), so may require longer work days/work weeks on the part of the contractor.

Start date: ASAP

Contract amount: Minimum $2500; negotiable depending on experience.
