Land Information & Mapping is the City of Calgary’s collector and steward of incredibly diverse geographic and infrastructure information used by nearly all City operations.  We meld these with business data, systems and technology to create proactive value-added business solutions for our clients through hands-on consultation and project involvement.

Responsibilities:
The GIS Data Analyst is responsible for geographic information system (GIS) analysis and data conversion between several spatial data environments, primarily involving MicroStation, ESRI SDE, and Oracle data formats, and creation of standard symbology sets in the ESRI GIS environment. You will utilize existing AML and FME translation code, and create new conversion QA/QC tools to monitor and manage daily data conversion/replication processes throughout the Corporation. You will work with the data that forms the core spatial data and base mapping for numerous City GIS requirements. Data converted is also used extensively in GIS analysis and mapping projects that you will be involved with. Specific duties will include:
– conduct a wide range of GIS analysis for various projects and clients utilizing multiple diverse data sets;
– coordinate and execute the daily translation workload;
– work with the GIS Centre other Information Technology groups to ensure that modifications to existing translation code meet the changing needs of the Corporation;
– create and maintain up to date documentation on all ongoing translation procedures;
– respond to inquiries from other City work units, private survey companies and a variety of external clients and organizations regarding digital data exchange and the proper use of Corporate GIS spatial data;
– maintain a complex system of file management adhering to Corporate TAB/FOIP specifications and legislated requirements;
– research new processes involving the incorporation of leading-edge GIS technologies for Land Information & Mapping.

Qualifications:
The successful applicant must possess a certificate/diploma (two years full-time study) in a GIS-related field with minumum of five years of related experience which includes extensive experience with FME, GIS and computer mapping in both MicroStation and ESRI environments. This position requires an excellent working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS, ArcView and ArcInfo, and advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Explorer). Detailed knowledge of the maintenance processes for the Legal Survey Fabric, Ownership Parcel Fabric, Road Network, DAS products, FME scripting, Oracle SQL and relational database design would be definite assets. Preference will be given to applicants with extensive knowledge of The City of Calgary cartographic standards and the relative flow of digital information throughout The City and to external customers; a proven understanding of spatial data management and GIS data management principles. Competencies required for this position include strong attention to detail;  accuracy; initiative and team skills.
