Instructional Assistant – GIS Applications Specialist Program


Location: College of the North Atlantic, Newfoundland

Duties:
Assist Instructors in the Geographic Information Systems Applications Specialist (Post Diploma) program as well as other Tourism and Natural Resources programs located at Corner Brook Campus in the planning, preparation and delivery of courses/laboratory activities as well as in a field based environment.Specific duties will include assisting in the preparation of students for future employment in GIS applications by assisting in developing skills in operating, modeling, managing, analyzing and presenting geospatial data and customizing geographic information. Duties will also include working with clients and external organizations on data transfer and systems compatibility issues, data entry and editing activities and maintenance operations. Responsibilities include assisting with student projects, evaluation, maintaining appropriate records, assisting with the organization of group activities in the classroom /lab setting and ensuring all related equipment is in good working order.

Qualifications:
Candidates must possess excellent communication skills, be able to work effectively as a team member and have a thorough knowledge of GIS applications and related software.Candidates must possess the skills and ability to work with a wide range of students while assisting them with their course work. He/she would have specific experience and skills in Geographic Information Systems, including expertise with ESRI, PCI, Idrisi, Maplnfo, AutoCad, ERDAS and Caris. Experience with Access, SQL server and/or Oracle would be considered assets. These qualifications would normally have been acquired through the completion of a Diploma/Post Diploma or Degree in Geomatics or a related discipline, supplemented by three years of recent relevant work experience.
