School of Applied Arts and New Media Faculty – Geomatics (GIS Technician – Planning)

Our Opportunity: 
The Centre of Geographic Sciences (COGS), an International geomatics training centre of the Nova Scotia Community College offers training at the post-secondary and post-graduate levels.  You will provide instruction in the GIS Technician and Planning: Land Information Technology programs.  Your areas of instruction may include computer, mapping and GPS applications, environmental and land use planning, planning principles and practices, and supervising student research projects, depending on program needs and your mix of training and industrial experience.  You will as well, maintain curriculum, evaluate learner performance, and assist in developing and promoting Geomatics department programs.

Your Credentials:

  • You possess relevant post-secondary education with at least a technologist diploma in land or environmental planning combined with a minimum of five years of occupational experience, or the recognized equivalencies.
  • Ideally, you have a university degree in planning or a related field.
  • You can demonstrate competence in the field of land use planning, with particular competence in theoretical, technical and legal aspects.
  • You can also demonstrate competence in the area of sustainable community and environmental planning and development.
  • You have experience using Geographic Information Systems and the application of project management concepts and skills.
  • The position also requires continuous updating of both theoretical and practical courses, necessitating contact with many aspects of the profession.
  • You are familiar with Portfolio education.  You are innovative and committed to life-long learning and community involvement.
  •  Your desire and enthusiasm to teach students with diverse backgrounds and knowledge along with your superb presentations, interpersonal and team building skills make you an ideal candidate.  As a creative self-starter, you have been recognized for your high energy and your commitment to excellence.
