Salary : $2,288.87 to $2,640.87 bi-weekly

This is a full-time term position to March 31, 2009.

The Habitat Management Unit of the Fish and Wildlife Branch is seeking an individual with knowledge of Yukon wildlife and skills in geomatics.  Reporting to the Habitat Inventory Coordinator, the primary responsibility of this position will be to update and improve the Wildlife Key Area Inventory, a comprehensive spatial and non-spatial computer database of wetland and upland areas of importance to common wildlife species of management interest to the Yukon Government. 

The ideal candidate will have experience working with natural resource data and geomatics, be able to work independently, and communicate effectively with others.  Excellent organizational skills, adherence to standards and attention to detail are requirements.  If you have good computer skills and are keen to work with a variety of data sources and expand your knowledge of Yukon landscapes and wildlife relationships, we would love to hear from you.

  • Diploma or degree in biology, environmental sciences, natural resources, geography, geomatics 
    or related discipline.
  • Proficiency in the use of GIS software (preferably ArcView/ArcGIS).
  • Proficiency with relational database structures, and the use of relational databases (preferably Oracle and Microsoft Access).
  • Experience working with natural resource or other scientific/geographic data.
  • Experience with wildlife and habitat inventory techniques
  • Experience with Global Positioning Systems (GPS) would be an asset.

Candidates with related coursework and extensive experience in the areas above will be equally considered.

Candidates with a diploma or degree and who do not possess all the required experience above may be considered on an underfill basis.

Condition(s) of Employment: Valid Yukon Class 5 driver’s license.

A one year eligibility list will be established from this competition to fill future vacancies for identical positions in the same department and location.
