Summer internship with Parks Canada in Pacific Rim National Park – updated!

Update: This position was not filled as of May 22nd.

A summer job opportunity has arisen (very last minute) for a summer internship with Parks Canada in Pacific Rim National Park in Ucluelet.  The job would involve GIS and field surveying work on a coastal erosion monitoring program.  The intern would work closely with Parks Staff and MSc Student Hawley Beaugrand at Long Beach, Broken Group Islands and West Coast Trail sites (a lousy gig, I know).

The position requires skills/training/experience in all of the following areas: GIS, field surveying, geomorphology, spreadsheet/database programming & analyses.  A valid BC drivers license and First Aid training is preferred.

The position is funded by the Young Canada Works Program (mentioned below) and requires that you are <30 years old AND registered as a full-time, returning undergraduate student.  The job could start immediately until end of August.  The pay is good ($12-14ish/hr?). Accommodations may also be provided for free in Parks housing in Ucluelet.

If you are interested, email Dr. Ian Walker email: <ijwalker71@mac.com> the following by Tuesday morning: 1) a brief cover letter stating your background/interests/qualifications, etc. and 2) unofficial transcripts.   Dr. Walker will conduct phone interviews and make recommendations to his colleague in Pac Rim.
