Position: Lands Administrative Coordinator

Location: North Vancouver, BC

Organization: Squamish Nation

This is an administrative position whose incumbent is strong interpersonally, technically and
administratively. Knowledge of First Nations lands, writing, communication and project administration is required. This position coordinates agendas, researches information for committees; ensures proper execution of projects on behalf of the Senior Operating Officer and Lands Manager.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
• Assists with development of individual transfer documents and land code.

• Assists with new Project Negotiation & Development projects.

• Conducts research as directed by Senior Operating Officer and Lands Manager.

• Drafts communications for use by upper management and division.

• Performs day to day office work and assists with communication.

• As directed, liaises with various external contacts and reads pertinent laws/documents
associated with important external partners (e.g. five municipalities, three districts).

• Stays current with amendments to Provincial and Federal land management legislation.

• Keeps appraised of Squamish Nation internal mandates for land use.

• Participates as a member of the Lands and Project Negotiation & Development teams.

Education; Level of Experience & Hiring Requirements:
• Certificate from a recognized college specializing in Admin / Office Management or Lands Management.

• Two (2) years directly-related experience in the majority of specialities listed in job description
including the processing of cheque requisitions, diverse secretarial, clerical and administrative tasks; knowledge of lands management policies, practices and protocols, etc.

• As career progresses, incumbent may be required to successfully complete job-required, short term upgrading, training and courses relating to first nation policies, mapping, GIS, etc; will take further training in Image Analysis, Ozzi, Google earth, Arcview, etc; to ensure staff is able to utilize the updated versions of each software.

• Experience as an advanced user of Email, Internet, Excel and Word/WordPerfect.

• Working experience with a large scale computerized database system.

• Experience with JD Edwards is an asset.

• Previous experience working in a First Nations Community (particularly Squamish) is preferred.

• Must clear the Enhanced Reliability (Criminal Records Check).

• Must have: Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and current auto insurance.

• Grade 12 plus Five (5) years may substitute for the above education and experience.
