GIS TECHNOLOGIST, W8098 PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT, GEOMATICS BRANCH Temporary Full-Time, $32.41 – $35.23 per hour
Reporting to the Director, Geomatics, the GIS Technologist maintains and evolves York Region’s geospatial data by acquiring and creating spatial data, producing cartographic and analytical products, and implementing GIS applications for Geomatics Division projects and clients.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Post secondary degree or diploma in GIS, Computer Science, Planning or related discipline with an emphasis on GIS, or equivalent experience and education. • Minimum of two years practical experience working with GIS technology, including spatial data creation and the creation of cartographic and analytic products. • Valid Ontario Class "G" driver’s license and reliable vehicle for use on corporate business. • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self management and accountability, and flexibility/adaptability. • Ability to implement GIS applications. • Technical knowledge of GIS software and techniques (incl. ArcMap, ArcInfo, ArcSDE). • Technical knowledge of relational database systems. • Ability to apply new technologies with minimal guidance. • Working understanding of programming languages (eg VBA) • Understanding/experience of QA/QC principles and data integrity issues. • Analytic and problem solving skills. • Ability to teach GIS to user community. • Knowledge of municipal government responsibilities and practices. • Ability to work outside regular hours as required.
