FULL-TIME TEMPORARY POSITION

(Beginning immediately for approximately one year with possibility of extension)

The purpose of this position is to coordinate, implement and maintain Government’s internet-based GIS applications and resources. Tis individual is responsible for ensuring the development and maintenance of applications based upon spatially referenced data and digital mapping. The individual will also assist in preserving the integrity and design of geographic information databases.

Duties will include:

‒ gather and analyse data for the conduct of studies to establish the technical and economic feasibility of proposed systems, and for the development of functional and system design specifications.

‒ ensure compliance with relevant design and development standards.

‒ produce forms, manuals, programs, data files, and procedures.

‒ design methods and procedures for small systems and sub-system of larger systems.

‒ creates and updates metadata information pertaining to the content, source, collection, processing, storage, format, accuracy, reliability limitations and other characteristics of the data to maintain integrity of the GIS data library.

‒ write programs used in the creation and update of GIS data sets and to output product.

‒ design and implement functional prototypes, including user interfaces for numeric models.

‒ assist in the testing and acceptance of the GIS hardware, software, applications and databases.

‒ develop and maintain databases that track GIS activities, including source data, metadata and GIS library data.

‒ provide first level client contact with problems.

‒ other duties as required.


Qualifications: Applicants must have a degree or diploma in the field of Geographic Information Systems Technology diploma program or a successful completion of a two-year IT program from an accredited post-secondary training institution with an emphasis on database design and creation and programming with at least 3 years experience with GIS application and database creation and maintenance in an on-line environment. The successful applicant must have the ability to work independently, have excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as a good knowledge of languages (HTML, PHP, JAVA), applications (Autodesk, MapGuide Studio, Autodesk Map 3D, Mapinfo) and datases (Sybase) . The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory criminal records check prior to beginning employment.
