Quetico Provincial Park is a wilderness class park of 4,655 square kilometres immediately adjacent to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area wilderness of Minnesota. Atikokan is an attractive community of 3,500 people. Public and secondary schools, separate schools and day care facilities are available. A modern hospital, medical clinic, chiropractic and dental offices provide health services. An indoor arena, swimming pool, golf and curling clubs, snowmobile and cross-country ski trails, as well as various clubs and organizations offer recreation. Housing both for sale and rent is available.

Note: Staffhouse accommodations are available at the park.

Your skill in the outdoors and conscientious work ethic make you an excellent candidate for this position as a member of the Quetico Provincial Park team. Your role will be to participate in the park maintenance and enforcement programs by maintaining and upgrading hiking trails and canoe routes as well as promoting user compliance with park rules and regulations.

Qualifications:

– knowledge of and skills in the operation and maintenance of a variety of light equipment such as canoes, boats, outboard motors, chainsaws, brush saws and small hand tools;

– knowledge of interior backcountry travel, canoe tripping, camping, navigation and practices and techniques of outdoor living;

– basic knowledge of resource management principles and techniques as they apply to hiking trails and canoe routes; knowledge of parks programs, services and operating regulations;

– interpersonal and communication skills;

– proven ability to work independently as well as follow and carry out routine instructions;

– knowledge of worker responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act; ability to work shifts, weekends and statutory holidays as per schedule;

– ability to travel in fixed-wing aircraft and work in inclement weather;

– valid Pleasure Craft Operator Certificate or ability to obtain;

– valid driver`s licence to travel to remote areas of the park to carry out field duties.
