Ministry of Forests and Range, Range Branch
Range Branch ensures implementation of strategic direction and legislation into effective range stewardship operations on Crown land in BC which is under the responsibility of the Ministry of Forests and Range. Key range activities include: operational planning, inventory, tenure administration, range development, management of invasive plants and Ecosystem Restoration. The branch is responsible for the development and implementation of operational policy, standards and best management practices for range resource values, and develops and coordinates quality control and effectiveness evaluation processes.
As the Range Geomatics Officer for Range Branch, you will provide provincial leadership to geomatics in the range program and deliver professional client services including project management, product development, corporate land information management and data stewardship oversight and leadership.
Qualifications include:
a Master’s degree in a relevant resource management field such as geographic information, geography, or other relevant subject plus considerable (4 years) current progressive experience.
In addition, you will have experience in:
– complex land and resource management issues;
– preparing and presenting strategic land and resource management technology issues and recommendations to multi-stakeholder planning tables, and/ or senior management and/or executive;
– managing projects, contracts and budgets;
– geographic information systems; training and expertise with ArcGIS;
– development and maintenance of data management policies, procedures, systems and standards;
– database management tools and applications (MS Access, Oracle, etc.);
– project management principles, including the successful (i.e. on budget and on time) delivery of projects;
– multimedia web design including writing web pages in a combination of codes, such as hypertext mark up language (HTML), Javascript, Actionscript, ColdFusion, Java, Perl and Flash, or using code-generating programs, such as Dreamweaver, and;
– handheld data collection technology and integration into GIS platforms.
A valid class 5 driver’s licence and a willingness to travel extensively are also required.
