Education

Graduation from a recognized university with a Doctoral degree in ecological science related to grasslands ecosystems preferably with related M.Sc. and undergraduate degrees or a MSc degree and a suitable combination of training and experience.
-Proof of education will be required prior to appointment.

Experience:
– Experience designing, implementing and managing research projects related to the ecology of native grassland ecosystems.
– Experience establishing and maintaining partnerships with universities, stakeholder organizations and government agencies.
– Experience providing expert advice to managers, particularly regarding ecology and management related to the role of disturbance in natural communities.
– Experience writing research and a demonstrated record of peer reviewed publications related to grassland ecosystems.
– Experience researching and monitoring the effects of exotic species and/ or agricultural practices, or other related threats to grassland ecosystems.

Work Environment
The Western and Northern Service Centre of the Parks Canada Agency is a network of professional and technical expertise established to support National Parks, National Historic Sites and National Marine Conservation Areas in Western and Northern Canada in the protection and presentation of cultural and natural resources.

Challenge
You will work in a challenging multi-disciplinary environment, providing expert advice on ecological and conservation biology issues related to the research and management of grassland ecosystems in National Parks and National Historic Sites. You will lead in developing and implementing research projects to study, monitor and restore ecological integrity in Canada’s National Parks. As a valued member of the Parks Canada team, you will work at a range of scales and provide specialized expertise in grasslands research and management. Your links with research agencies and universities, your experience and ability to design and conduct research and monitoring projects related to grassland ecology, and your ability to communicate with other professionals, senior management, and stakeholders will provide Parks Canada with sound and scientifically defensible programs. As such, you will publish your findings both in the peer-review ecological literature and as internal Parks Canada reports.
