GIS TECHNICIAN


Western Pennsylvania Conservancy has a full-time opening for a short-term (6 months – 1 year) Natural Resource Conservation GIS Technician in the Pennsylvania Natural Heritage Program (PNHP). PNHP has an ongoing project to develop tools for Conservation Planning.


Objectives of this project are to gather and integrate informationon species or guilds of concern into a standardized format, develop criteria for Conservation Planning polygons for these species or guilds, and build a criteria database.  The criteria will then be appliedto known locations of these species or guilds of concern to produce aGIS layer of areas of conservation priority.  The GIS Technician will be responsible for applying the conservation planning specifications to develop Conservation Planning GIS layers for priority species in Pennsylvania.  The position will be based at the PA Game Commissionin Harrisburg, PA.

Preferred qualifications:

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree plus related work experience in biology, geography, spatial information management or relatedfield. Course work or work experience with ArcGIS is essential.  A background and/or education in biology, environmental sciences, or natural resource
conservation is strongly preferred.
