GIS TECHNICIAN
BI-WEEKLY SALARY: $1717.05 – $2020.06

TYPICAL DUTIES:

Technical Development
•Analyses and develops new methodologies and tools for production and efficient sharing of data and defines/documents standards/procedures
•Assesses BCA user needs and application of external models (e.g. ICIS) for integration with the BCA model
•Tracks problems or errors and proposes resolutions for provincial model product to external groups
•Conducts quality control assessment on GIS mapping products on an ongoing basis and conducts tests on procedures to improve quality/efficiency

Production and Systems Services Support to Clients
•Participates in developing a schedule of deliverables for BCA offices for core mapping products
•Communicates with GIS Technicians in Systems Services to resolve issues on requests for products and services
•Uses GIS mapping software to produce/update GIS map products for internal and external clients, using spatial/non-spatial data from both internal/external sources
•Gathers, assesses, manipulates and updates GIS spatial and attribute data to produce BCA core mapping products
•Catalogues and administers GIS spatial and attribute data
•Projects, edits, translates and integrates data according to BCA standards
•Provides GIS and mapping support for core mapping products to BCA staff
•Resolves attribute data conflicts and performs data conversions
•Identifies GIS data requirements and exchanges GIS information with external clients
•Applies quality control standards according to defined procedures
•Uses various GIS programming languages
•Chairs and/or participates in GIS meetings
•Uses internet, reference books and white papers to research GIS information
•Uses GIS mapping software and manual methods in response to user requests to produce mapping products for BCA internal and external clients.
•Responds to referrals from Client Services to resolve queries/problems with mapping products
•Works with GIS Technicians in Infrastructure Services to resolve issues on requests for products/services and provide suggestions for change to the fabric
•Participates in the development and implementation of new methodologies and tools to improve services, production and efficiency
•Projects, edits, translates and integrates data according to BCA standards
•Identifies GIS data requirements and exchanges GIS information with external clients
•Provides formal GIS training to BC Assessment staff as identified by Client Services

QUALIFICATIONS:
•Able to understand and apply GIS principles, techniques and terminology used in the production of GIS products and use various GIS software and equipment
•A good working knowledge of the provincial government mapping standards and systems.
•Proficiency in GIS database management functions.
•Ability to interpret survey plans and legal descriptions.
•Good verbal and written skills to prepare project documentation and procedural manuals.
•Ability to present facts in graphic form with a high level of accuracy.
•Ability to problem-solve, establish and maintain effective working relationships and participate in a team environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Completion of a post-secondary diploma or certificate program in GIS or a related field. A minimum of one year (1) related experience is needed. However, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
